Packing tips for traveling

1. Consider the weather conditions and activities

When packing for your vacation, it’s important to consider the climate or weather conditions and the activities you’ll be participating in. If you’re going to a tropical destination, you’ll want to pack lightweight clothing, hats and sunscreen, in comparison to if you’re going skiing, where you’ll need to pack warmer clothing and winter accessories.

Make sure to research the weather and activities of your destination in advance so you can pack accordingly. This will ensure that you’re comfortable and well prepared for whatever your vacation has in store for you!

2. What is the duration of your trip?

It’s also ideal to take on board how long you’ll be traveling for to avoid under or over-packing amongst other mishaps!

Sure, it’s always nice to pack as much stuff to be on the safe side, but, if you’re only going for a weekend away, there’s no need to pack six different outfits when realistically you’ll probably only need about three (if that).

3. Decide whether you'll be taking a carry-on or check-in bag

Speaking of duration, decide the type of luggage that would be suitable for your travels. For a short trip you could probably get away with a carry-on and for a longer stay, a check-in bag might be more appropriate.

Make sure you pack your most valuable stuff in your carry-on as this stays with you throughout your flight. Anything that’s less valuable should stay in your check-in bag.

Not to freak you out or anything, but always anticipate your check-in bag may get lost, stolen or delayed during the flight. So for peace of mind, I highly suggest you purchase a luggage tracker or air tag to avoid any unwanted stress!

4. Start with the essentials

When packing for your travels, it’s important to always start with the essentials. A little minor inconvenience like not packing your favourite bikini or lipstick is better than a full blown catastrophe like forgetting your medication or documents!

So be sure to pack these items first before moving on to other things, with this travel packing checklist it would be hard to forget everything you need anyways!

5. Pack versatile clothing and accessories

A great packing trick is to choose clothing and accessories that can be worn in multiple ways or multiple times. Being able to mix and match outfits throughout your trip will help you save some much needed space in your luggage!

Here are a few ways to do just that:

• Opt for more neutral colors as they’re much more versatile.
• Consider items that have multiple uses like a shawl which is easily transformable.
• Pack items that can be worn for both casual and formal occasions.

6. Leave enough room for souvenirs and extras

From local snacks to handmade crafts or even a new outfit, we all love to come back with souvenirs and extras to remind us of our travels! Make sure to leave plenty of room in your luggage for all the fancy stuff you pick along the way.

7. Get smart with how you pack

When packing, you need to get ALL the nooks and crannies in your luggage. From the rolling or folding technique to stuffing socks (with jewelry) in your shoes, get smart with how you pack and you’ll be surprised with how much more you can fit in.
