Living a zero waste and eco friendly lifestyle is one of the most effective ways to protect and preserve the planet. Making simple changes in your home and day to day life could make the world of difference (literally!)

An eco friendly lifestyle could help towards reducing waste, saving money and cleaning our beautiful oceans to name a few. An approach that’s good for you and the environment.

Sustainable living may seem a little daunting and difficult, but In a time where people are becoming more eco-aware, adopting zero waste and eco friendly practices has never been easier!

Remember, some changes don’t happen overnight and need a slow and gentle transition. In order to maintain a low waste, sustainable lifestyle you need to be consistent with the changes you make.

That’s why I’ve created this list of zero waste and eco friendly tips to get you started and make the shift towards a brighter tomorrow.

Reduce: the amount of waste you produce to minimise the impact on our planet.

Reuse: instead of throwing things away, see if you can repurpose them first.

Recycle: don’t just bin it! Sort it for the purpose of recreation!

1. Switch to bamboo straws or non-plastic alternatives.

2. Invest in a reusable water bottle.

3. Get a refillable coffee cup.

4. Try out bamboo toothbrushes.

5. Opt out of plastic utensils and sauce sachets when ordering a takeaway.

6. Take your own containers to a restaurant for leftovers.

7. Take reusable shopping bags for your groceries.

8. Use reusable bags for produce.

9. Sort out your recyclables into the correct recycling bin.

10. Change any plastic items to other alternatives.

11. Use bar soaps in place of liquid soap.

12. Store your pantry in glass containers.

13. Preserve the freshness of your veggies by keeping them in water.

14. Plant a small herb garden.

15. Keep houseplants around the house.

16. Turn your food scraps into compost.

17. Start meal prepping.

18. Declutter your kitchen cupboards and fridge so you can see what you and use it before it goes off.

21. Don’t take the best before date too literally. Most foods are still edible a few days beyond the date.

23. Turn the water off when not in use (yes even between brushing your teeth!)

24. Turn off any electronics and plugs that aren’t being used.

25. Use hand cloths, towels and cleaning cloths where possible instead of tissues.

26. Go paperless for bills and receipts. Many companies now offer e-bills and e-receipts straight to your inbox. Make sure to opt in.

27. Use both sides of the paper.

28. Donate anything you don’t want to charity shops, thrift stores or even give them to your friends and family.

29. Switch to LED lighting.

30. Upcycle or fix things that are broken or outdated.

As you can see, adopting a zero waste and eco friendly lifestyle isn’t as difficult as it first seems. Slowly add these tips to your day to day life and you’ll be one extra person fighting for the planet!
